Program Description

Level 2 – Single Phase Electrical Installation & Maintenance
Level 3 – Three Phase Electrical Installation & Maintenance

This program (NOSS) development focuses on electrical installations and maintenance activities. Electricians will install fuses and wiring, repair electrical equipment in buildings and factories. The electrician will learn wiring connections to outlets, transformers, and circuit breakers with each wire being connected to a box with a special connector. Electricians use hand tools and electrical gadgets to complete their work. To test wiring and connections for function and safety, they use oscilloscopes, voltmeters, ohmmeters, and ammeters.

Electricians usually specialize in repair or construction. Electricians involved with construction spend most of their time wiring buildings. Those who specialize in repairs, spend their time repairing and refurbishing existing equipment. Based on the findings of the development workshop, it was decided that the entry level for the career of electrical installation & maintenance staff is at Level 2.

Single Phase Electrical Installation & Maintenance Personnel (Level 2) should be able to perform the following competencies if deemed competent;

• Single Phase Drawing
• Single Phase Wiring
• Single Phase Wiring Maintenance
• Single Phase Motor & Motor Control Installation
• Single Phase Electrical Appliances Maintenance
• Single Phase Wiring Testing & Commissioning

Three Phase Electrical Installation & Maintenance Personnel (Level 3) should be able to perform the following competencies were deemed competent;

• Three Phase Wiring
• Three Phase Drawing
• Three Phase Wiring Maintenance
• Three Phase Motor & Motor Control Installation
• Three Phase Electrical Appliances Maintenance & Troubleshooting
• Three Phase Wiring Testing And Commissioning
• Supervisory function

Further Education

A student who passed the certification levels 2 and 3 can either proceed to

• DKM (Diploma Kemahiran Malaysia) – Level 4 or
• MQA Diploma in Electrical & Electronics Engineering if they have passed in SPM with 1 credit
• VTO (Vocational Training Officer) – the endorsing certificate to be a lecturer for a teaching career.

Fee (PTPK Study Loan Available)

Note: The study loan repayment (around RM 100 plus per level) starts upon getting the job or from 6 months after the completion of studies of all levels. Provision for additional loan of RM 2,500 for buying laptop.
